Illinois State Laws That Make Blood Donation Easier
Employee Blood Donation Leave Act
Grants local government employees and private sector employees (in companies over 50 employees) up to an hour of paid leave to donate blood every 56 days.
Body Art Regulation Act
The Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers fought for the passage of state legislation to regulate all Illinois tattoo and body piercing establishments by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Without this law, federal guidelines forced blood centers to defer donors with fresh body art for 12 months. Since the law passed and went into effect in 2009, there is no more waiting period. All blood still goes through rigorous testing.
