ILLINOIS COALITION OF COMMUNITY BLOOD CENTERS NEEDS YOUR BLOOD ASAP!!! Join the #GIVEBLOODCHALLENGE
blood centers kick off "give blood challenge" as blood shortage looms
Blood collections are down by 60% because of the cancelled blood drives due of the closed campuses and business. The FDA stresses that donating blood is safe process that occurs in a highly regulated sterile environment and blood collection staff is taking additional cleaning precautions. Despite the coronavirus, blood is needed every 2 seconds for local patients receiving cancer treatments, trauma, Sickle cell, neo natel babies, etc and needs to be on shelf ready to go in an emergency. Blood has a very short shelf life and needs to be constantly replenished.
The Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers is launched the “#GiveBloodChallenge” challenging people to donate and post a pic (at least of your appointment time) and tag 10 of their friends to do the same on social media. Go to www.americasblood.org and schedule a donation time at a center near you!
